2011 is drawing to a close. Im now on to my third iPhone, so I have downloaded and deleted quite a few apps! I now only have around 20 apps that I keep on my phone, here are my top 5…

1. Facebook. Even though I dont really use my facebook anymore, I still check it several times during the day. Its nice to keep track of what going on. Also the new iPhone app looks pretty nifty!

2. Instagram. I love this app, its my favorite app of all time. Im not much of a photographer, but I now take quite alot of photos, when im out and about im always looking for an opportunity to snap something cool to post on my instagram. Its quite addictive.

3. Twitter. Good old twitter, twitter has now taken over my facebook updates, all the cool people are choosing twitter these days, it also keeps me up to date with all of the celebrity antics.

4. Sky News. The best place to get your news, in my opinion. Im not normally one to keep up with the news, but since i installed this app, i now check it 2 – 3 times a day.

5. Natwest. Im going with my most used apps here, and I do use this daily. Its amazing that you can access your money from an app, its also so much easier to use than logging into your online banking account every day.

Apple recently reveled the new iOS 5, the latest version of its mobile operating system.

So what is new in the iPhone os5?

Here are the main new features:

iMessage

The new way to message people from your iPhone! This is the iPhones version of the famous ‘BBM’. Send texts, photos, videos and more using Wifi or 3g. You will be able to see when someone has read your message and even when they are typing!

Notification Center

A new notification center will keep all your notifications in one place, just swipe down from the top of any screen and it will show you all your latest notifications.

Camera

You can now take photos using the volume buttons! I personally have been waiting a long time for this! You can also access the camera from the lock screen.

Photos

You can now edit your photos directly from the photo app, crop, rotate and remove red eye. You can now also create folders for you photo, this has been a great miss from previous verisons of the iOS.

Wireless updates and set up

You no longer need to connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC to active it or update your iOS. This can now be done directly from the device via Wifi. You can also sync your device wirelessly to your PC or mac using a Wifi connection, every time your device is connected to a power source (charging) it will automatically try to sync with your iTunes.

Apple say there are more than 200 new features for iPad and iPhone in the new iOS 5, this is a major update and they have done it again, and made the iPhone and iPad even more easy and fun to use!

A tweet from a BBC Operations Engineer has revealed that the long awaited iPlayer app is going to be rolled out this week.

The iPlayer is currently only available to the UK, but there’s words in the pipeline that they are going to be opening the BBC service to the USA. Dont worry British TV licence payers! The BBC iPlayer app will be a paid subscription service for users in the US.

The downside to the iPlayer app for iPhone and iPad is that you will only be able to stream content via WIFI, You can use 3G to browse through the content, apparently, but you will still have to go and find yourself a wifi hotspot or sit in the comfort of your own home to use the service. Hopefully this will change in the future.

There will be a full review of the app within the next couple of days, once we’ve had a chance to play around with it properly.
